Shore fishing is an interesting practice, and the key is to choose the right equipment for it. The fish will have a specific behaviour in this area. Therefore, it is necessary for you to turn to alternatives that allow you to take things in hand, such as a surfcasting fishing rod.

Fishing for fish by the sea

When you are at the seaside, you will not usually see fish directly on the shore. In fact, they will stay at a certain distance, especially to avoid the tourists who line the sandy beaches. To fish for them, you need a surfcasting rod.

This rod will be distinguished by the fact that it favours fishing for fish that are not in the vicinity. You can use this type of rod to send your line out into the sea. A minimum of 20m will be enough to ensure that you catch a good quantity of fish. However, it is possible to send the line even further out.

Choosing the right length of rod for surfcasting

The length of the rod is one of the most important details to consider when deciding on a surfcasting fishing rod. This will affect the ability of your rod to be used to cast the line over a long distance.

A beginner cannot use a rod that is too big from the start, and should initially look at models between 4.20m and 4.5m. With a little more experience, it is possible to go for models that are between 5m and 6m.

Opt for a good rod power

As you would expect, it is important that your surfcasting rod has sufficient power. If the power is between 150g and 200g, you can achieve quite a lot with your rod. In addition, the power of your rod will depend on the material of which it is made.

There are various solutions in this respect, and fibreglass can be mentioned as an example. However, it loses its appeal to carbon fibre, which has many more advantages. It is up to you to decide which one is best for you in this respect.

Lures and recommended weight

In order for the surfcasting rod to do its job properly, you need to have the right lures and weights. Marine fish are generally going to be quite large, and they are also often of the carnivorous type.

Shad type lures are therefore the most suitable for this type of fishing. For the weight, it is preferable to use a ballast of about 40g, to be able to throw the line far. To be more efficient, it is necessary to favour rigs such as the lead head or the texan.
