Some people find it difficult to make a rig with carp rods. However, when you have all the necessary equipment, the operation becomes very simple. Before setting up, it is important to make sure that all accessories are complete and made of good materials. In order to catch carp, you don’t necessarily need to know a lot of carp rigging techniques. In this article you will find out how to do it properly.
What you need to know about the leader
The leader is essential when considering a carp fishing rig. Indeed, it is useful to have a good leader. It is also important to have a bait, a lead between 60 and 80 g, a hook, and anti-tangle accessories. A little advice: consider increasing the weight of the lead if the water current is stronger.
You should know that to be able to catch a carp, the leader must have a certain number of characteristics. It all depends on the behaviour of the carp you intend to catch;
- If they are active and greedy: it is better to use a long leader;
- If they are quiet: a short leader is the most suitable;
- If they are very cautious: it is wiser to choose braid, which has the advantage of being flexible, strong and transparent. Such transparency allows it to deceive the carp effectively.
The characteristics of sinkers
Leads are useful to ensure a long and accurate cast. It helps to keep the carp rod assembly in place. They come in many shapes: they can be watch-shaped, missile-shaped, ball-shaped, tri-lobe-shaped or other. As for their weight, it can range from 40 g to 120 g. Whatever the characteristics of this accessory, the important thing is that its existence in the rig should not disturb the fish. To choose the right weight of sinkers, take into account a number of criteria, such as the type of rig chosen, the power of the rod and the circumstances of the fishing trip.
Other important accessories
In addition to weight, there are other carp rod fitting accessories that deserve special attention. This is the case of :
- The anti-fender: its size should generally be greater than 1/3 of the length of the leader;
- Lead clips, clips and balls, used to carry the lead and to help the user to change the lead in a shorter time if the latter is not adapted;
- Swivels, being accessories used to connect the end of one line to that of another. It is used for the connection of the bottom line with the top line;
- Hooks, which must be strong and sharp to hold the carp during a catch. The size should be chosen appropriately, depending on the size of the fish and the size of the bait.
