What is a ringworm?
A ringworm is a larva that is 1.5 to 2 cm in size with a brown head and a yellowish white body. If you want to buy your own moths, you should know that this type of bait is sold in batches of 50 or 25 in a box filled with wood chips. There are also moth models that are sold in cardboard and honeycombed rolls. Once you have purchased your moths, simply store them in a dry place at a constant temperature of 8-10°C.
It is no coincidence that moths are considered the favourite bait of professional fishermen. This type of bait holds well on the hook. Moreover, it is perfect for catching trout.
Where to find your moths?
Moths feed on honey and are found in beehives. If you need to find good quality moths, we suggest you visit a bee farm. We are sure that your beekeeper friend will be happy to give you his moths, as these little beasts pollute the hives. If you don’t know a beekeeper, we recommend that you visit shops that specialize in the marketing of fishing tackle.
When shopping in these retailers, you will have the chance to find different types of moths. If you visit the shelves of some distributors, you will be able to find fake white or gold ringlets. These are the most commonly sold. If you have decided to opt for this type of moth, it is recommended that you choose moths that are sold in bulk in sawdust chips
There are also pink moths. As the name suggests, this peach moth is pink in colour. It is quite plump compared to the golden moths. You can also opt for the mini moths which are considered small moths with a size of 1 cm
Some tackle shops also sell mummified moths. These types of natural bait can be stored. If you want to go far enough away to do your fishing trips, we recommend you to choose these mummified moths.
How to fish with moths?
It is quite easy to do this moth fishing technique. These natural baits can be used in running water as well as in water bodies. However, to help you choose the right type of troll, we advise you to take into consideration the water level. If the water level is low enough, we advise you to choose the mini moths. It is the low density that makes it very sensitive to currents.
